Oklahoma City Bombers vow to reach playoffs

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Coach Jake Maxwell of the Oklahoma City Bombers, Oklahoma City’s new basketball team, said Thursday that he believes the Bombers will make the playoffs this year, the first year the team has existed. “As sure as Timothy McVeigh blew the side off that building, the Bombers will blow the sides off of our opponents and make it all the way to the top,” he said at the press conference Thursday.

The Oklahoma City Bombers were formed in 2007 when the city became impatient over whether or not the Seattle Super Sonics basketball team would be moving to Oklahoma or not. Fed up, the public threw their support behind local entrepreneur Gustavo Pope, who created the Bombers, in his words, “in the spirit of the one and only time anyone ever gave a fuck about Oklahoma City: the time when part of it blew up.”

The Bombers, which play each game in jerseys decorated to like vests full of explosives, have yet to play in an official NBA game, but in preseason practice, their spirited offense, aggressive defense, and tendency to psyche opposing players out by yelling “BLAM, you’re dead!" at opposing players suggests that they will be a force to be reckoned with.
